COCKBURN POETRY SLAM 2018
Just before Easter all of the children in our school
wrote poems in their classes.
This resulted in some amazing class poems
which were then read out before the school and our judges.
The judges chose class 13 as the winners
and the prize was go on to defend our trophy
and perform the poem at Cockburn High School.
Some children from class 13
attended the poetry slam competition at
Cockburn and did really well! Unfortunately,
we were pipped to the post
for the trophy but we'll be back again next year!
You can listen to the children reading their poem here -

On the 24th April 2018 some of our pupils
from years 5 and 6
went to the Hunslet Warriors Rugby Club
to take part in a tag rugby competition.

Left to right: Mateja Bojanic, Owen Flockhart,
Tyesha Allottey,
Holly Rycroft, Shalom Murape.

2nd row: Callum Thurlow, Divine Ezika, Mae Johnstone.
Back row: Yan Tao Weng.

The children played brilliantly and we are pleased
to say that our team came THIRD
out of the nine teams that were competing.
Here are a couple of action shots from the day!

Well done to all that took part!

EASTER SCHOOL HOLIDAY CONSULTATION.
Leeds City Council is seeking views on the timing of the
Easter school holidays for the next few years.  This will be our third consultation
on the fixed Easter school holiday arrangement –
we originally consulted in 2009, and then again in 2013.
On both occasions the public view was clearly in favour of having a fixed Easter break.
Since 2011, Leeds has fixed its school break to the first two weeks of April,
regardless of when the Easter bank holiday weekend falls. Usually the bank holidays
fall somewhere within this break, but once every few years they fall outside.
We are now seeking public opinion in order to decide whether to continue
with this arrangement or return to an Easter school holiday that moves according
to the Easter bank holiday weekend.

Not all schools have to abide by the dates Leeds City Council sets. Academies,
Free schools, Foundation schools and Voluntary-Aided schools have the authority
to set their own dates and will continue to do so regardless of any change
Leeds City Council may make as a result of this consultation.

We would appreciate it if all parents could complete the survey online at
www.leeds.gov.uk/easterholidayconsultation
or complete and return the paper copy of the survey which was sent home.
